A true American breed developed in the Great Pacific Northwest, the PIXIE BOB combines the wild, rugged appearance of the bobcat, with the playful personality and loving loyal disposition of a fine feline companion.

Pixie Bob breeders and sales The early history of The PIXIE BOB is vague at best, with documented history only as recent as 1985. Carol Ann Brewer acquired two males, one was purchased as a kitten in 1985, the other was rescued in 1986, at the base of Mt. Baker. The rescued cat, although it was starved, was reputed to be almost knee height. Because of his extraordinary size, his build and his markings, the cat was rumoured to be the offspring of a domestic cat and wild bobcat. Later DNA testing, however, did not substantiate the claim. A future litter sired by the rescue cat with a local spotted female, produced a kitten named "PIXIE" who was to become the foundation cat for the breed we know today. 23 other cats from around the Cascades were introduced into the breeding program as other breeders collaberated to produce a distinct, fully domestic breed, ressembling the NORTH AMERICAN BOBCAT. The PIXIE BOB was classified by TICA initially as a "Native New Breed", defined as "A new breed which has been identified through selection of phenotypically similar individuals from a naturally occurring population indigenous to a particular geographic region.", but it is now classified as a "Newer Natural/Regional Breed".

The PIXIE BOB is a medium to large sized cat, with prominent hips and large shoulders, long, heavy legs and large feet. His naturally short tail is sometimes kinked or knotted. He has a beautiful, striking coat and closely ressembles the ticking of the bobcat coat, which can be short or long hair. He is an active hunter and quite intelligent, possessing some dog-like qualities, such as enjoying games of fetch, as well as leash walking. He is a social feline who enjoys the company and play of other animals. His vocabulary is very different from other cats in the fact he does not often meow, in fact, some PIXIE BOBS do not meow at all, rather, he communicates with a variety of chirps, chatters and growls. "Head butting" is thought to be a sign of affection from him, and he will demand affection and attention in return. The PIXIE BOB is a feline slow to mature, where most breeds take only one year to reach maturity, he takes three years to reach his full size and build.

A beautiful and distinct creature, the PIXIE BOB has won the recognition and affections of cat lovers worldwide. With his charming personality, his fun loving nature, and his loyal attitude, he is a fine companion and a perfect addition to any family.

"Everything I know I learned from my cat. When you're hungry, eat.
When you're tired, nap in a sunbeam. When you go to the vet's, pee on your
owner." --Gary Smith
